About
Chronic kidney disease affects nearly one billion people globally, yet close to 90% remain undiagnosed until late stages.
This is not a treatment failure – it’s an upstream detection gap.
Kidney risk rarely surfaces first as a kidney-specific signal. It often appears indirectly through co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, or heart failure. By the time conventional blood and urine markers become abnormal, kidney damage is already well underway.
Seventeen years ago, Silicon Valley veteran Patañjali Chary lost his mother to preventable acute kidney failure. That experience sparked a long-term effort to rethink how kidney risk is detected – not downstream when damage is visible, but upstream, when intervention still matters.
Fourth Vital is building the upstream AI infrastructure layer for kidney risk, grounded in a clinically established physiological signal of systemic cellular distress that is known to predate kidney damage.
Until recently, this signal could not be measured outside acute clinical settings, nor non-invasively and longitudinally from the home. We can now detect it at repeated intervals over time and translate it into risk intelligence that downstream kidney and cardio-renal platforms can directly leverage.
Enabled by non-invasive sensing designed for longitudinal use in the home, Fourth Vital integrates physiological and contextual biomarkers to surface early-stage risk patterns that conventional diagnostics often miss.
Fourth Vital is designed to integrate upstream of existing kidney and cardio-renal workflows – complementing, not replacing, downstream diagnostics and care pathways.
Our mission is to improve quality of life for millions while meaningfully reducing the long-term healthcare costs driven by late-stage kidney disease.
